Happy (& Healthy) New Year!
As we welcome 2025, I thought it would be a good idea to remind everyone about the importance of having healthy eating habits. This doesn’t mean always eating whole foods or a plant-based or organic diet. It means that we eat foods that fuel our bodies, make us feel good, and make us happy. It means not feeling like you need to detox or go on a diet at the beginning of the year because you overate during the holidays. Let’s use the new year to break the cycle!
Enjoy What You Eat
Eating a diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, and high-fiber carbohydrates will definitely make our bodies feel good and energized. But all foods have their place in our daily diets. A little maple syrup with your pancakes or a cookie after dinner can feed your body and your soul.
“Food should put a smile on your face, not make you miserable..”

Fuel Your Body Correctly
Eating three meals per day will prevent you from bonking in your early morning workout, keep you from starving between meals, and help avoid late-night snacking. After a night of fasting, starting the day with a nutritious breakfast—like oatmeal, eggs and sweet potato, or peanut butter and banana toast—will give you the energy and mental clarity to start your day right.
Quick Tip for Early Morning Workouts:
If a big breakfast feels impossible before exercise, try having a banana, a glass of orange juice, or half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. These simple carbs will fuel your workout, and you can enjoy a full breakfast after!
Make It Sustainable & Maintainable
One of the main reasons why dieting doesn’t work is because it isn’t sustainable. Sure, you might lose weight initially, but chances are it won’t stay off. Diets are often low in calories or nutrients your body needs to function properly, leading to cravings and eventual weight gain.
“A healthy lifestyle is not a quick fix—it’s a forever change.”

Detox & Low-Calorie Diets Aren’t Worth It
Did you know your liver is already a detox powerhouse? The human body is incredibly well-designed and doesn’t need extreme diets to eliminate toxins.
Detox diets—like juice cleanses or fasting—may cause muscle loss, lower your metabolism, and come with side effects like headaches, difficulty focusing, and lightheadedness. These effects aren’t normal and aren’t worth the minimal weight loss.
A Lifestyle, Not a Diet
Are you stuck in a cycle of trying to lose holiday weight all year, only to overdo it at the next holiday? Do you feel guilt or anxiety after eating certain foods?
This year, let’s change that.
- Eat when you’re hungry.
- Enjoy treats without guilt.
- Aim for consistency instead of drastic fluctuations.
It’s not a quick fix, but making sustainable changes can lead to a lifetime of health and happiness.
Remember, adopting healthy eating habits is a journey, not a sprint—embrace progress over perfection and take each step toward a healthier, happier you in 2025.
